How to open the car bonnet.
Answer: Find the bonnet release catch inside the car. Pull until it clicks. Then go to the bonnet, open it and then secure it. Please see the video. Thank you.
Question: 1. Could you please show me where you would check the engine oil level and tell me how you would check that the engine has sufficient oil?
Answer: Open the bonnet and identify the dip stick by pointing at it , and describe how to check the oil level against the minimum / maximum marks on the dip stick.
Question: 2 Open the bonnet please, and identify where you would check the engine coolant level and tell me how you would check that the engine has the correct level.
Answer: Open the bonnet and identify the high/low level markings on the plastic header tank, and describe how you would to top up to the correct level.
CAUTION....... Do Not Open The Radiator Or Header Tank When The Engine Is Hot.
Question: 3 Can you please show me and identify where the windscreen washer reservoir is and tell me how you would check the windscreen washer levels.
Answer. Open the bonnet and identify the windscreen washer reservoir and explain that you would pop open the top of the reservoir and visually check inside it and top up as required.

Question: 4 Please open the bonnet and show me the brake fluid reservoir and tell me how you would check that you have a safe level of hydraulic brake fluid.
Answer. Open the bonnet and point to the brake fluid reservoir, Now explain how to check the fluid level against the high / low markings on the side of the reservoir.

Question: 5 Please show me how you would switch your headlight from dipped to main beam and tell me how you would know that the main beam is on whilst inside the car.
Answer. Put your lights on, turn the light switch twice ( no need for the ignition ) and check that the main beam warning light is on. It's a blue light on the dash board.

Question: 6 Please tell me how you would switch on the rear fog lights and explain when you would use them.
Answer. Tell the examiner how you would put your lights on, turn the light switch twice, make the lights dipped (no need for the ignition) and then turn on the rear fog light, a yellow light will come illuminate on the dash board showing that the fog light is on.
EXPLAIN: That fog lights are used when visibility is reduced and is less than 100 metres. (Rain, Fog, Snow and Spray.)

Answer. Tell the examiner how you would put your lights on, turn the light switch twice, make the lights dipped (no need for the ignition) and tell them how you would use reflections, walk around the car or get help from someone.

Answer. Show the examiner by applying the indicators or by switching on the hazard warning lights and use reflections, walk around the car or ask someone to help.

Question: 9 Please tell me where you would find the information about the recommended tyre pressures for this car and how you would check them.
Answer. You would find the information in the vehicles handbook. Use a pump to inflate then check the pressure with a reliable pressure gauge.

Question: 10 Please tell me how you would check the tyres to ensure that they have sufficient tread depth and that their general condition is safe to use on the road.
Answer. Explain that the tyres should have no cuts or bulges in the tyre walls and a minimum of 1.6mm of tread depth across the central three-quarters of the breadth of the tyre and around the entire circumference.
Question: 11 Please show me how you would check the parking brake (Handbrake) for excessive wear.
Answer. DEMONSTRATEby applying the handbrake to show that when it is fully applied that the ratchet holds the car and the car remains secure. Also explain that the brake should not be at the end of it's working travel.
MAKE SURE YOU APPLY THE FOOTBRAKE TO STOP THE CAR MOVING WHEN YOU RELEASE THE HANDBRAKE.

Answer. Explain that you would apply the footbrake and use either reflections or ask someone to check for you.

Answer. There should be resistance felt when the brake pedal is pressed ( car is stationary). The brake pedal should not feel spongy or slack. You should press the brake gently as you move away. The car should not pull to the side.

Question: 14 Please tell me how you would know if there was a problem with your anti lock braking system.
Answer. The warning light should illuminate on the dash board if there is a fault with the anti lock braking system.

Answer. Set all the relevant controls including the fan., temperature, air flow selector and heated rear windscreen.

Answer. Operate the wiper control arm by gently pulling the arm toward you. Hols for a couple of seconds then release it.

Answer. The head restraint should be adjusted so that the tick part is in line with the top of the ears and level with your eyes and as close to your head as is comfortable.

Answer. Check around and make sure your not going to frighten anyone. Now press the horn.

Question: 19 Please explain how you would check that the power assisted steering is working BEFORE starting a journey.
Answer. 1: Apply gentle pressure to the steering wheel as you start the engine and you should feel the power steering pump kick in.
2: Turning the steering wheel just after moving off will give an immediate indication that the power assistance is functioning.
